The North Yorkshire Youth Justice service is made up of expert staff from different services and specialist areas, supported by skilled and committed volunteers. There are two area teams covering the county, one based in Scarborough & Selby covering the east of the county and another team based in Harrogate covering the west.

The YJS is unlike most services that have a single employer and a single career structure. This may seem fairly complicated compared with most other services, but itís also a great strength to have seconded and partnership staff from such a variety of backgrounds including The Police, Probation & Health. The largest single employer is North Yorkshire County Council, but even these staff are from a wide variety of background including, Youth Justice, Social work and Education.

Below are some examples of the various roles our staff undertake to ensure that we are providing an effective service that helps and supports young people to stop reoffending, supports victims and protects the public:

  • Admin/Information Management
  • Reparation Development Officers
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Victim Liaison Officers
  • Volunteer Co-Ordinators
  • Probation Officers
  • Education Liaison Officers
  • Police Officers
  • Social Workers
  • Substance Misuse Officers
  • YJS Support Workers
  • Youth Justice Officers
  • Bail & Remand Officers
  • Health Workers

All our staff are dedicated to reducing crime, protecting the public and changing the lives of vulnerable young people. Every member of staff that works for the Youth Justice Service is vital in the delivery of our services, whether it be providing supervision for young people or supporting victims. Having staff who are experts in many areas helps us provide the most targeted response to youth crime.
